The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus

1 Corinthians 16:22

In I Corinthians. 16:22, there is a statement that is made that is many times overlooked because it is written in Aramaic. The statement is: If a man loves not the Lord Jesus Christ let him be anathema (accursed) maranatha (the Lord comes). If you will go Mt. 24, you will find what is known as the Olivet discourse.

Our Lord Jesus was in the temple that Israel greatly loved, called Solomon's Temple the first time it was built. This building was the most beautiful of all buildings ever built. In those days it cost 10 billion, 720 million dollars to build. There was cedar from Lebanon, gold walls, floor and ceiling of such beauty and wealth as you have never seen.

No wonder the disciples were pointing out to our Lord the buildings of the temple. There was a total of three buildings. Jesus shocked them when he told them that there shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. In A. D .70, the Romans destroyed the Temple  by setting fire to it. As the cedar and other flammable material caught fire, the gold melted and ran between the large stones causing the Roman soldiers later to take pry bars and overturn the stones to get the gold from between the stones fulfilling what our Lord Jesus had said in verse 2.

Then there was a discussion started that men of all walks of life are still talking about, that being the return of the Lord. Across the Kidron valley on the opposite side of the Temple site was a favorite site where our Lord went many times to pray. This was the Mount of Olives. Here the disciples asked him some questions that most people today want to ask.

Tell us, when shall these things be? What shall be the sign of thy coming and the end of the world? Jesus began to answer them by telling them several things. First, he said, take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ and shall deceive many. You shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you be not troubled: for these things must come to pass. But the end is not yet.

Nation shall rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, pestilence (contagious diseases), and earthquakes in divers (different) places.

All these things are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you; and you shall be hated by all nations for my name sake.

Many shall be offended and shall betray one another  and hate one another, and many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. Because iniquity (sin) shall abound the love of many shall wax (grow) cold. He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Verse 42 sums it all up; Watch for you know not what hour our Lord comes.
