Going Down the Wrong Road, on the Wrong Side

Mt. 7:13,14

Have you ever gotten on the wrong road as you travel, and you know inside that there is something wrong? You see there are others on the road you are traveling but you know you are going contrary to where you want to go, for you feel uncomfortable with the direction you are traveling and you begin to look for an emergency turn around. Finally you see a turn around and you give your signal to turn while others continue on their way. Even though others are still on this road, you see a need to turn and go in the other direction. As you drive back up the road you begin to look for signs to point you to where you want to go and finally there is the sign pointing home. Joy and comfort comes to you as you travel the correct road.

This causes us to watch out for the correct road signs in the future. Life has many roads and we must be very careful not to get on the wrong road. Many accidents happen when we get on a road we have never been on before. We don't know where the curves are, we don't know if there are any detours along the way. Many things happen on the wrong road that causes stress and unnecessary discomfort.

Jesus tells us there are in reality only two roads of life we can travel. One is the Broad road that leads to destruction and the other is the Narrow road that leads to eternal life. You and I have chosen the road of life and even then me must watch the road signs daily to be sure we are on the correct road.

Some of the road signs we have are our daily Bible reading and prayer. If we are not careful we can let up on these signs and other distractions will come in. We are sometimes prone to relax and the moment we do, it seems other interests will creep into our life.

I noticed while traveling aboard a ship that every evening at a given time a sailor will get a compass and chart and he will point the compass to a star that he knows. Here he gets direction to travel that night and the next day over many miles of water and brings him safely home. Each evening he repeats the task of getting directions.

It is not a one time only task but daily he must check his compass and chart his course. Jesus is the star we must look to and we must do it daily if we want to enjoy our trip home. What joy we will have when we see the lights of home and the welcome home is extended to us as we arrive safely home by daily plotting our travels by the word of God and prayer.

Be sure your compass is set on the right star and friends stay in tune with Jesus daily.
