AN ANGEL BEFORE THEE

Ex .23:20-25

The subject of angels has always intrigued mankind. We hear people say their child is an angel. Many times people refer to their deceased loved ones as gone to be an angel. An angel is a living spirit and man has never been an angel. Jesus said they are as the angels referring to not marrying in heaven. Luke 20:35. He also said neither can they die any more for they are equal to the angels in verse 36.

You and I each have an angel that watches over us according to Psalms 34:7.

There are times that angels are around us for we are told, be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware.

The Lord said in the text, Behold I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

God had prepared a place for the children of Israel to live and there was divine guidance to take them from where they were and to take them to the place where God wanted His people to be.

He was very serious about Israel following the Angel for He said, beware of him and obey his voice, provoke him not, for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

These three words are to be looked at today:

Beware of him. There are a lot of things wrong in this world today and each of us needs to look around and see where the root of things are. If it is good it is from God, if it is evil it is from the devil. Satan is hard at work today destroying anyone he can and you and I are no exception. If he can get us involved in his destructive ways he will destroy all the good he can.

Obey his voice. There are many voices calling to mankind today. Some of these are good voices that will lead and direct us in the ways of righteousness but before you start off in any direction try the spirits and see if they are of God. If they be of God they will glorify the name of Jesus Christ and if not leave them alone.

Provoke him not. It is a dangerous thing to provoke the Lord. Many have done it only to experience defeat. If God is our creator and He is, why not give him honor and praise for his wonderful works he has done.

The Psalmist in Psalms 8:3-5 says, When I consider thy heavens the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou have ordained; What is man that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man that thou have visited him? For thou have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor.

Hebrews 2:9 says, But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Jesus Christ the Son of God loved you and me so much He left his throne in glory to redeem us from our sins.
