A TREASURE UNTO THE LORD

Ex. 19:3-5

All of us have treasures that are special to us. Someone once said, One man's trash is another man's treasure. You must know the value of a person or thing before you can decide if it is valuable or not.

There was an old violin laying in the rummage sale. The auctioneer trying to get rid of the violin said, Who will give me ten dollars? No one replied. Then he said, Who will give me five? Still no one bid. An old gentleman walked slowly to the front and picked up the violin and began to pluck the strings as he tightened and tuned it. Reaching for the bow he began to play to a totally silent audience. Upon the old gentleman completing, he laid the violin back down and the auctioneer said, Who will give me ten thousand? Someone cried out ten thousand and another cried twenty thousand. After the sale was over someone asked why the difference was made and the reply was, The master's hand is the difference.

The Lord told Moses, If you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people.

There are two things that need to be seen in this text:

If you obey my voice indeed: There is a lot more to being a child of God than going to church every now and then. When we obey the voice of God there are some things that will happen. When soldiers learn to obey the sound of a trumpet, there is one call that tells us to arise and that same trumpet tells us to lie down and that same trumpet tells us to charge or retreat. Learning the sound of the trumpet is vitally important to each of us.

Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice and they follow me. We each know we have a duty to serve our Lord and friend he has given us the church as the channel through which the commission should be carried out. Jesus said make disciples, baptize them and teach them.

When the Lord said obey my voce indeed what did he mean? Webster says: indeed is without question, truly, undeniably, in reality, all things considered; as a matter of fact.

Do we obey God's word without question? Do we accept God's word undeniably as the word of God? Every word is considered as reality, meaning I accept God's word as the infallible word of God.

Keep my covenant: A covenant is an agreement between two or more people. A marriage is a covenant where we make certain commitments to each other. If we break our covenant there is hurt to others involved.

The Lord Jesus paid the supreme price for the relationship we have with our Heavenly Father. No greater love hath any man than that he lay down his life for his friends. Jesus has kept his covenant he made. I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish. They that come to me shall in no wise be cast out. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord is as true today as it was when he first
