JESUS STOPPED BY CALVARY

Exodus 21:12-25

When you and I look at the Law and the harsh results of breaking it, there should be rejoicing in every heart for what our blessed Lord Jesus did at Calvary. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe and life for life left no room for excuses.

I have always been amazed how stern the Law was but I also wonder how we would fare if we lived under the Law today. Thousands of people that are in prison for life would not be alive, for the crimes they have done would be punishable by death. If you or I caused another to be disabled we would support his family while he was recovering. All adulterers would be stoned to death, anyone who cursed their parents would be put to death. On and on we can find people alive today that would not be if it was not for one word--grace. There is a thought that has been burning in my heart that I would like to share with you. Jesus knew the Law and was well acquainted with every aspect of it. As I look at Jesus on his journey home, I would like to think of him, "Going by Calvary on the way home."

Many times we are asked to go by the store on the way home. We know what store to go to and what we are going after and we also know we must pay for what we go after. On the way home, Jesus knew the condition of mankind, He knew where he was and friend he also knew the price that was to be paid to purchase man from his lost condition.

The condition of man: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; And the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:6) It is very easy to see the condition of man today. You need only to look at the unsaved world today.

They don't even know how they got here on earth. They talk of being related to the ape, they try to say they were something else and started to evolve and finally became a man. Blind men don't need to try to lead other blind men, for if they do they both fall into the ditch.

He knew where man was: Mankind is not far from God, if he will by faith be obedient. The word is near you, even in your heart and in your mouth, that is the word of faith which we preach. If any man calls on the Lord he will be saved. (Romans 10:13) He knew the price to be paid: There are times we see the price and we walk away. Not Jesus, He knew the price He and only He would have to pay for man's redemption.

The Bible says we are justified by His blood. (Romans 5:9). Feed the Church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28). Forasmuch as you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold from your vain conversation (way of life) received by tradition from your fathers; but by the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. ( I Peter 1:18) Friends, Jesus is still gathering souls through the blood he shed at Calvary. Will you let him add you to the number to be presented to the Father being washed in his blood?
