Mothers of The Bible

Proverbs 31:30

All of my years in the ministry I have noticed that women have played a great part in the churches of our county and state. Many churches probably would have had their doors closed if it had not been for the women in the churches.

This not anything new, for as I look through the Bible I have found that women have always played a big part in the life of the church as well as the home. Some of the stories recorded in the Bible are beautiful to read.

Moses had a sister named Miriam; she stood by her brother and no doubt she was a lot of encouragement  to him as the children of Israel was in the wilderness. When the Hebrews crossed the Red Sea, Miriam sang her songs of Thanksgiving to the Lord.

Deborah was known as a Judge and a prophetess and she encouraged Barak in battle that brought victory for Israel.

Ruth no doubt is one of the most beautiful stories ever of a woman who totally committed her life to her husbands family "saying " your God shall be my God and your people shall be my people. Ruth and Boaz had a beautiful court ship and she; went from a Gentile girl to becoming the great grandmother of King David the King of Israel.

Abigail; shows courage even to the point of going against the popular opinion of others and helping David when it was not popular to do so.

Esther put her life on the line to save her people, the Jews. Even though she was in a foreign country , she was true to what was right, she stood for truth al all cost. The acid test of our faith is when we are away from home, what is our conduct?

We cannot but remember the young girl in 2nd. Kings 5; that was a servant to Naaman's wife in a foreign country but she still had a faith so great she convinced a general in the Syrian Army to go see the Prophet in Israel.

Elizabeth was an older woman but this did not stop her from believing the Lord. Most people said she could not give birth to a child but she believed the Lord instead of listening to the people and said  his name would be John.

Mary the Mother of our Lord was a young woman who kept her self pure as most Jewish women try to do for they each know the greatest thing that could happen was to be the Mother of the Messiah.

Today, every woman, young and old should use this  day to re-examine the roll of women in life. Some of the greatest needs we have in America today is for Mothers to take serious their roll as Mothers.

Thank God for all of you, what will our children say about our Mothers today after we are gone. Some of your greatest memories will be of your parents  after they are gone.

Story

I was visiting a church out of town. As I was reading their bulletin I noticed an article that read, Mom's breakfast next Saturday morning.

I told the pastor that it was very nice of the church to remember the mothers with a breakfast. He replied to me, O that is not for the mothers, the breakfast  is for the ( Ministers On Missions )
