CAMP HOWARD A Loving Memorial to Bro. & Mrs. James L. Howard of Wallins Ky. Brother James L. Howard donated 15 acres of land on the top of Happy Top in the Wallins area to the Upper Cumberland Association of Baptist for the purpose of a youth camp. There has been boys and girls that have come to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ every year since the camp begin receiving campers in 1963. The first year there was 6 professions of faith in Christ and the summer of 2002 there was 27 professions of faith in the Lord Jesus. Children from all over the county come to Camp Howard during the summer. They register between 12 noon and 1:00 PM on Monday and spend the week learning about Missions, Music, Bible and some sports. They make new and lasting friends while in camp. Friday morning they are served a Brunch meal between 8-9, then prepare to return home at noon on Friday. Many of the young people dread to leave camp and wish they could stay longer. The churches of the Association prepare a very good meal each day. This enables the camp to hold down the cost of campers coming to camp. The cost is $25.00 per child for 1 week. Some of the churches sponsor a child and many people who have no small children also sends a child to camp. All of this makes for a wonderful experience for our youth during the summer months of June and July. Our local pastors serve 1 week at a time as the camp pastor as well as some serve as Bible teacher of the week. There are councilors from our local churches as well as a Registered Nurse on call at all times in case of an accident. In addition to our own local churches using Camp Howard there are several groups from out of town and out of state that are housed at camp as they work with the local churches in Vacation Bible Schools, Surveys, Revivals and other summer projects.
